Pick the right size and type first, then compare prices. Here is what matters for a typical HDB or condo: capacity, type, water use and the space checks people forget.

Short answer: for a household of three to four, a front-load washer of about 8 to 10 kg is the safe choice. Choose top-load if you want a lower price and the option to add clothes mid-cycle. A washer-dryer combo only makes sense when there is no room for a separate dryer.
Capacity is the dry weight of clothes the drum holds. A bigger drum costs more, but running a half-empty machine wastes water and power, so match it to how many people share the laundry.
| Household | Rough capacity | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1โ2 people | 6โ8 kg | Daily small loads |
| 3โ4 people | 8โ10 kg | Most families, weekly bedding |
| 5+ people | 10 kg and above | Big loads, bulky comforters |

Washing machines are not part of NEA's energy tick scheme, so there is no tick label to compare. Instead, look at three things on the spec sheet and the product label:
An inverter (variable-speed) motor is common in better models and usually runs quieter.

A capacity of about 8 to 10 kg is a common choice for three to four people. Go larger if you wash bulky items such as comforters often.
Front-loaders usually use less water and are gentler on clothes, but cost more and the door needs space to open. Top-loaders are cheaper and let you add clothes mid-cycle, but typically use more water.
No. NEA's mandatory energy labelling covers air-conditioners, refrigerators, clothes dryers, televisions, lighting and water heaters, but not washing machines. Check the water efficiency label and the kWh-per-cycle figure on the spec sheet instead.
It saves space, but the drying capacity is much smaller than the washing capacity and a full cycle takes long. If you have space, a separate washer and dryer is usually more practical.
Measure the space, the doorway and lift, the height under any counter, and check where the water inlet and drain point are. Leave a few centimetres behind the machine for hoses.
It varies by brand and model, and the motor or drum often has a longer warranty than the rest of the machine. Read the warranty terms on the product page before you buy.
